It struck me last night in class that we could use a workshop on shoulder stabilisation and posture. Not only to teach a decent push-up, but also to help with power generation, and to reduce upper back and neck tension caused by bad habits (like driving and using a computer).
So, Wednesday 18th from 18.00-19.30: a one-off seminar on posture. We will cover exercises to establish correct position, and to improve flexibility and muscle tone. All welcome!

Hello all,

the end of the year is approaching and it's time to look forward to 2012. Next year SHMS is hoping to see many new faces at the Jakomäki salle, as well as a bunch of old (and returning) ones, so here comes the essential information regarding training in January - March 2012.

As stated before, we have a bunch of seminars coming up, among them a one-day refresher course for returning students who wish to get up to speed on their longsword training. Active students are also welcome to come and train up their basics, but it's particularly useful to those who'd like to get quickly back into training. For those who prefer to take their time getting to know the material we have the beginners' course, during which you can of course also train in regular classes. Brave souls can just jump right in, you'll be looked after!

In addition to the beginner's course we are continuing the popular mini-courses: I.33 sword & buckler is confirmed for wednesdays in February, stay tuned for more.

As it is the end of the year, the membership and training fees are due by January 2nd. This has been a financially difficult year for SHMS, so we ask that members make their payments on time to ensure that we can get off to a good start. We also offer a new payment method for students who train infrequently: the 10 time card, which allows you to attend and pay for the classes of your choice. You can get this at the Jakomäki salle. Please look for the payment information below.
It has struck me that our more advanced students don't get nearly enough training at their level. To address this, I think we should shift the Monday evening basic class to 7pm, and have a seniors class from 6-7. No warm-up, so come in time to loosen up, just an hour of developing more advanced skills, with as much individual coaching from me as we can squeeze in.
This will no doubt highlight imperfections in basic technique that can inform the content of the basic class that follows.
So, Mondays would go
1800-1900: intermediates and above (those not ready to join can watch, of course)
1900-20.30 basic class
20.30-21.00 warm-down, free training, etc.
what do you all think?

The syllabus day seminar held on dec 10th included a representation of the basic syllabus on a whiteboard; that data has been transferred to a pdf file which can be downloaded from here: http://www.swordschool.com/assets/files/...ic%204.pdf
It might not be much use to anyone who wasn't there, but for those of you that made it, it should help keep the system clear in mind...

Ylimääräisen jäsenkokouksen tarkoitus on esitellä ja hyväksyä talousarvio vuodelle 2012. Jo syyskokouksessa esitelty talousarvio päätettiin jättää sillä kertaa pöydälle, koska rahastonhoitajamme ei tuolloin päässyt paikalle esittelemään sitä. Kokoukseen saa toki tulla keskustelemaan muustakin, mutta pääasiallisena tavoitteena on talousarvion käsittely.

1. Kokouksen avaaminen.
2. Kokouksen järjestäytyminen.
3. Laillisuuden ja päätösvaltaisuuden toteaminen.
4. Pöytäkirjan tarkastajien valinta
